198: Jim Poole – Hacking Your Way to Deep Stress Relief and Body Recovery

Last time, I recapped my trip to Arkana, where I experienced some of the most potent and profound plant medicines on the planet.I got this very vivid picture of how we get to fine-tune and take care of these human bodies of ours. I realized the importance of paying attention to what we’re putting into our bodies so that we can achieve our higher selves. 

Today’s episode is another biohack that we can use to upgrade our system, mind, and body. It’s a neuroscience technology aimed at managing the human brain to have our extraordinary lives in color. To help us go in-depth with this new technology, I have the CEO of NuCalm on the show — Jim Poole!

In this episode, Jim and I talk about what NuCalm does. We dive deep into its neuroscience and how it can help you deal with stress, fear, recovery, and so much more.

Who Is Jim Poole?

Before he met the inventor of NuCalm, Jim had been a part of plenty of large companies.

He also worked as a managing partner for Focused Evolution. Focused Evolution is a management-strategy consulting firm specializing in developing and implementing growth strategies for companies at every stage of the business life cycle. The firm has a global clientele and has served businesses throughout the medical device, life sciences, dental, IT, and financial industries.

In 2009, he became the president of Solace Lifesciences, a neuroscience company focused on personalized evidence-based wellness and performance. After learning about NuCalm’s neuroscience technology’s potential power to manage the human brain, Jim became a convert. 

NuCalm is now the company’s flagship product and the world’s first and only patented technology clinically proven to lower stress and improve sleep quality without drugs. Biohacking: The Science Behind NuCalm

As humans, we all have the so-called “reptilian brain.” This reptilian brain pushes us to secure our survival, which sadly sabotages in various ways. Jim explained how post-traumatic disorder, one sign of our reptilian brain working, is treated in today’s world.

“Dr. G. Blake Holloway, the creator of NuCalm, was wholly unimpressed with how PTSD was treated with conventional therapy and narcotic-based pharmaceuticals and cognitive behavioral therapy to the brain. He believes that this isn’t a place where we can calm down. So if you’re in a constant state of hypervigilance and fight or flight, you’re not even at a baseline opportunity to begin the healing process.”

The silver lining, though, is we have the resources and expertise to deal with it today. Jim shared how NuCalm, a product of wellness tech, can make this possible.

“Our nervous system has two parts: the central nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The central nervous system governs our security. It’s responsible for keeping us alive. Meanwhile, the autonomic nervous system governs human fear, stress, anxiety, and depression. It’s the reptilian part of our brain, which has a pretty strong, important role in our life. NuCalm’s role is focused on balancing the reptilian brain, which has evolved over 40 million years ago.”

So how exactly does NuCalm work and make transforming our lives possible? NuCalm is a software-hardware hybrid device that includes a disc, app, and eye mask. These combined elements help users achieve deep relaxation and rehabilitation. 

Though it might sound complex, it’s actually quite simple when you break it down. I want to share the critical description of what each part of NuCalm’s process does to our brains.

#1: Biosignal Processing Disc

This disc is applied to your left pericardium six acupressure plan or inner left wrist. It does the biochemical messaging process of activating the Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This naturally occurring amino acid works as an inhibitory brain neurotransmitter. 

Anything that binds to your GABA receptor site creates a relaxation response. It blocks or inhibits specific brain signals in the HPA axis (hypothalamus anterior pituitary-adrenal cortex) and adrenaline, decreasing activity in your nervous system. Think how beer or wine affects you and puts you into a profoundly relaxed state after drinking. 

This fascinating disc basically creates a resonance or activates a frequency, like a harmonic oscillation, that our GABA understands and resonates with. 

Jim also emphasized that the mind is powerful and has such a strong memory that there’s anticipatory anxiety about something about to happen. Thus, the disc tricks the mind into falling into a relaxed state.

#2: The Eye Mask

We are all visually stimulated by light. Our occipital lobe and super cortex are your visual cortex. So if your eyes are open, you’re not going to be able to get into a place of deep relaxation restoration.

#3: Neuro Acoustic Software 

Jim said that this is the most essential part of NuCalm. This software allows you to choose a track from three categories: recharge, reboot, or rescue. From there, you can select a time — 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 70 minutes, or 120 minutes. Finally, you can lie down, and you hear beautifully articulated and exceptionally crafted compositions of music!

By invariably slowing down your brainwave function in alpha and theta, your body goes to that restoration on a cellular level and recovers. NuCalm prevents your mind from getting sabotaged by fear, stress, anxiety, and depression. It allows you to be mindful, present, and patient by slowing down and allowing your body to take in oxygen. The more oxygen-rich red blood cells that permeate your body, the healthier, more balanced you are. 

As creatives, we know how important a relaxed mental state is when engaging in our craft. Remember that creation is a building block of Creative Alchemy and allows alchemical processes that let us live the best life possible. NuCalm is not only a technological gift from Dr. Holloway to humanity, but it’s also a catalyst to alchemize our lives today!

We Are All Frequencies

As humans, I believe that each of us is exceptionally smart, talented, gifted, and resilient. 

However, the level of stress we experience today is probably the most extreme in the history of humanity. Thus, our resilience begins to break down because we can’t be in that kind of high-stress hypervigilant state for too long. 

This stressful and bizarre state is predicted to decrease our immune systems for the coming years. The good thing, though, is we have the power to still take control of our current situation.

Remember how the biosignal processing disc works? It controls the HPA axis, which is responsible for cortisol — our body’s stress hormone. This is possible as it creates frequencies that can resonate with everything around it. Jim explained

“Everything in the world has and is built around frequency, energy, and vibration. This means that we resonate at a frequency all the time, too. This is evident when we feel that our motivations are high, sometimes they’re not, and sometimes they’re fleeting. Sometimes we even feel that we’re really creative right now, and other times we don’t. Everything is dynamic because we’re all frequencies”

As a photographer, I genuinely understand what Jim means. Many people think that they can capture a moment in time and get it replicated. The truth is you can’t. It’s a journey because of its energy. People will never look the same, and that’s got nothing to do with the camera angle. There are times when you look at pictures of people or your wife, and you’ll realize that those are all energy. People are all excellent examples of this constant vibrational pattern.

Knowing that we’re all frequencies gives us the power to manage ourselves. As Jim said, things happen depending on how your brain waves function.

Therefore, when you can manage your frequencies at eight to 12 hertz, it allows you to be in the relaxed zone. This is the perfect spot when you feel like being creative or going through transcendental meditation.

Meanwhile, if you allow your brainwaves to fall under the frequency of four hertz, you’re doing two essential functions that help with longevity, focus, life, and positive performance. You’re allowing yourself to undergo cellular maintenance through cleaning the toxins out of your cells, and second, you’re restoring ATP and mitochondria, which is the energy source of the cells.

Ultimately, knowing that we’re made of frequency allows us to engineer and trick the most sophisticated ecosystem in the world-the human brain and body. This places us in the space of levitating and restorative sleep, allowing us to recover and heal from all the stress, fear, and trauma in the world. 

It also paves the way for creativity to flow, alchemizing the thoughts, emotions, and other inner blocks to make our lives extraordinary.

Why Mindfulness Is the Key to Health Longevity 

Jim said that if there’s any good that comes out of COVID, it has been a reset for the planet, animal kingdom, and humanity. It allowed many of us to pause and gain some introspection, experience reflection, and truly see what is essential. 

Many of us certainly have time to spend thinking due to isolation, while many also found themselves managing the situation through drugs. However, Jim believes that this kind of response isn’t good for us.

“When you get a hold of stress and manage it with drugs, you end up applying more resources to your frontal cortex. This cortex is your executive functioning and thinking and character and personality. This makes you powerless against the reptilian brain of fear, stress, anxiety, depression.”

To overcome this battle, Jim advises us to practise mindfulness, which he believes is the key to bounce in the autonomic nervous system. To get into mindfulness, you need to get your brainwave function into the theta brain state if possible. This slows down your respiration rate and allows you to synchronize your heart with your lungs. As a result, this oxygenates the body to its fullest, and oxygen is the healing element for humanity.

Jim also explained how mindfulness has helped him overcome his fear of failure.

“I just have inherent aggression. I love physical activity, and I’m a driven human being. It wasn’t until I got involved in NuCalm that I realized fear of failure was my driving factor. … I started giving myself 30 minutes of NuCalm, which gave me a shocking ten to 12 hours of focused, present, clear performance. That’s an investment. I like that ROI. But over time, it has changed who I am at a level down to my DNA. I am always present.”

To practice mindfulness, remember that you can only control what you can influence. The world has gifts to offer us all the time, and they’d just passed us by because we’re stuck in our heads. We’re too focused on the reptilian brain telling us that we suck, that we can’t do this, and that we’re not good enough. 

“All the conversations we have with ourselves, we need to get out of your head. Instead, be present, take a breath, listen, and observe life here. It’s all about energy and frequency, and it’s not about control, fear and stress. Let’s focus on this path of mindfulness, which means oxygenating key areas of your brain, so you can think clearly and not be sabotaged by the 40 million years reptilian brain.”

That’s absolutely true. We have so many thoughts going through our heads, and most of them are worrying about the future and regretting the past. They keep us from living in the present moment, and the best version of our lives we could think of.

But when we practise mindfulness, we take control over our thoughts and create better futures for ourselves.
